Welcome

Active Citizenship

Active citizenship is the core mission of JCI. Under the strong leadership of JCI World President 2008 Graham Hanlon, the JCI Action Plan introduced this concept as a powerful expression of the JCI vision and this was also reflected in the recommendations of the Strategic Planning Committee that drafted the strategies to lead JCI into the next decade.

JCI Mission : To provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change.

Setting up a “JCI Academy for Active Citizenship” is a critical element in order to implement the Active Citizenship”. Therefore, the JCI Board of Directors and the JCI General Assembly made the decision during the JCI World Congress 2008 in New Delhi to work out this Academy.

The first edition of this Academy was presented as the "JCI Political Academy", the second edition of this Academy will be brought under a changed name of "JCI Academy for Active Citizenship". The changed name puts emphasis on the broader definition of active citizenship then just 'politics'.

JCI Vlaanderen (Flanders – Northern part of Belgium – with more than 42 LOM’s and over 1350 members) supports strongly this idea and volunteered to host this Academy.

The world famous city of BRUGES (Brugge) – on the UNESCO World Heritage List – is the ideal place to host this prestigious event.
